THE BEST MOVIES OF 2016
It seems a bit harsh to talk about ‘best’ when you know that 2016 has been one of the worst years in recent memory. Especially when you realize how many famous people suddenly died. Not only did we lose a handful of masterclass singer-songwriters such as Prince, David Bowie and George Michael … we were also forced to say goodbye to fan-favorite actors such as Alan Rickman and Carrie Fisher.
But life goes on, as they say, and to show you that it wasn’t all gloom & doom this year … here’s the top 10 of the greatest movies of 2016!
Crazy teenagers who play an online game of ‘truth or dare’. Actors Emma Roberts and Dave Franco are a match-made in heaven, and create a charming chemistry. Nerve reminds you of what it was like to be young and wild … so go on … join the party!
The first Marvel-superhero who’s also a magician. Benedict Cumberbatch proves once more he is one of the most versatile actors working today. With astounding visuals, Doctor Strange is a good movie though not the best Marvel thing to come out in 2016!
Hacksaw ridge tells the true story of Army Medic Desmond T. Doss who refused to fire a weapon, only to save hundreds of lives of American soldiers on the battlefield. The directing of Mel Gibson is fierce and dirty, the acting of sweet-face Spider-man Andrew Garfield is the best thing he’s ever done … a must-see war movie!
The perfect children’s movie. No violence, no darkness and no ugly things. Simply a boy living in the woods who befriends a dragon. Some call this movie the ‘E.T.’ for the new generation. It’s such a sweet story – if you ever wanna feel like a child again, then you must watch Pete’s dragon … you must!
Another classic children’s story retold in live action! Arguably more impressive than the original Disney cartoon, everything fits like a perfect puzzle! The visual effects are the best. The voice acting is great. And the story of a young Mowgli trying to survive the jungle is entertaining to watch. Don’t miss The Jungle Book … you’ll thank me later!
Moana (or Vaiana, because this movie has 2 different titles) is easily one of the best movies Disney has ever created! The music is similar to Frozen, with its uplifting pop-music. The story adds a little history in the mix. And the visual effects are so realistic you won’t believe your eyes … the water, those clouds, that fire!! If you miss this movie, you might as well drop dead!
The only ‘serious’ movie in the top 10, Captain Fantastic is proof there aren’t enough original stories in Hollywood! It looks like a drama, but it’s actually very light. Sometimes even funny. It’s about a father who raises his six children in the woods. But when he has to go back to the modern world, he and his children face many new challenges … a modern masterpiece!
The first movie about actual human soldiers and no lightsaber-wielding Jedi or Sith. Star Wars: Rogue One isn’t just a great Star Wars movie, it’s a great movie altogether! It proves Star Wars can survive without Skywalker. Very original, very awesome, very entertaining – kudos to Disney! Now, when is the next one?
Is Captain America: Civil War the greatest superhero-movie ever made? Perhaps. It certainly is the most entertaining of them all! It has thirteen (13!!) superheroes fighting each other in a clash that no one will ever forget. But guess what? It’s the great story that drives this movie forward … not the special effects. That’s why Marvel is so much better than DC Comics …
Remember how you loved all eight Harry Potter-films? That’s how great Fantastic beasts and where to find them is. It expands the magic of the world of wizardry and witchcraft, but never cheapens it. It shows you a different city, different magic spells … with creatures you’ve never seen before!
and that’s why ‘FANTASTIC BEASTS’ is our number 1-movie of 2016!!!

Worthy of mention:
Miss Peregrine’s home for peculiar children |
The new Tim Burton movie may not be his best … but it’s one of the most original movies you’ll see all year long. Strange, yes, but a wonderful dark fairytale.
